Andres Gonzalez - Scheduling and Irrigation

Andres Gonzalez began his journey with Plant Specialists as a temporary worker in the installation department, where he spent his first five months learning how to build gardens from the ground up. It was a challenging start, but his determination to grow kept him moving forward. After gaining two years of experience, he became more confident in his skills and ready for new challenges.

He took a garden care test under the guidance of Peter Morris, the company’s resident horticulturalist. Though the test was difficult, the experience was incredibly rewarding and led to a new role as a helper in garden care. The shift was less physically demanding but required more independent thinking, and Andres spent several years learning and developing in that department.

Eager to grow further, Andres expressed interest in transitioning to irrigation. At first, Grahame Hubbard, the owner of Plant Specialists, declined the request. But Andres reminded him of a company meeting where growth was encouraged, and a few days later, he was given a part-time role in irrigation. He focused on turning systems on and off, soaking up every opportunity to learn.

Andres eventually became a full-time irrigation technician, a role he thrived in before being promoted to irrigation manager, where he took charge of the department. The new position came with more responsibility—and a well-earned raise.

Later, he was unexpectedly offered the opportunity to manage the scheduling department. Though initially intimidated, he accepted the challenge. The early days were tough, but Andres persevered, learning how to build efficient schedules across the company.

Today, Andres reflects on his career with pride. Though landscaping was never part of his original plan, he’s found both fulfillment and family at Plant Specialists. The company has become more than just a workplace—it’s home.
